I am 68, I started to answer this question but my answer was getting long and involved.
There are things which have gotten better and things which have gotten worse. It depends on what, and for whom. If I try to pare down to one select topic I would say the thing I find most disturbing today that was not an issue when I was is a kid is the rise of surveillance capability and eroding of privacy.
Everything we do today is tracked and monitored. Some people say that if you are not doing anything wrong, what is the fear? But there is a difference between secrecy and privacy. You may not have any secrets, but there are things about everyone’s life they want to keep private. In the current state of surveillance, there is nothing to delineate one from the other. I have a popup on my virus scan that says “Other people can see what you do”. It makes me feel unsettled and vlunerable. What if the powers the be don’t like what I do or think?
